[translation] Tail of Hope Interview from modelpress PART A

Unlike in the Only One promotion period where all her interview articles are variations of the same interview (some are even exact replicas of the others.), for Tail of Hope, all the interview articles available on pia, modelpress, excite and oricon are all different ones.

I'll try to translate all the questions/answers I find interesting to read but it will take time. >_<

For now, please enjoy this modelpress PART A first. PART B is about fashion&beauty. Not sure if I'll translate it. ^^;

- About "Tail of Hope"
BoA: It's a summer song suitable to play while you go for a drive. The lyrics are not just about "hope" but also portray problems we face in everyday life realistically making it easy to empathize with. It also serves as an opening theme for a drama so everyone can enjoy the linkage between the song and the story in the drama too.

- The drama's theme is stress and problem women face in our current society. As a woman, how do you handle the stress you face in your daily life?
BoA: Everyone has his/her own problem, what matters is whether you can move on to the next step or not. In my case, I try not to think of the problem and will move away from the darkness as fast as I can. Because once I start thinking, I tend to think too deeply.

- Just like in the lyrics, "Smile when it's painful".
BoA: Right. When in pain, you should look for other fun stuff instead of thinking too much about the pain. Talk about your problems with friends, then laugh about them or go travelling to refresh yourself.

[talk about MV. skip]

- "Baby You.." is Japanese version of the song that was released as a digital single in Korea before. How's the Japanese lyrics?
BoA: If the lyrics are translated from Korean lyrics literally, it'd sound like a gag, so I wrote the Japanese lyrics from scratch. I think fans can enjoy this newly reborn song once again on its own. The story is also related to "Only One", so please try paying attention to the meaning while listening to the song.

- The song realistically portrays the condition of lovers where "their hearts start to drift away from each other after they've been trying to conceal their true feelings so as not to hurt each other".
BoA: I think it's a vicious cycle of human relationship, not limited to only between lovers. When people start to drift apart, normally it starts like this, I'd think. Problem can be solved if we just honestly speak what's on our minds. If we try to hide the truths, most of the times it'd only result in more misunderstandings.

- When you want your lover to act a certain way, do you say it straight to him?
BoA: I can't! So dissatisfaction only piles up and results in a tragic end. But I will be more aggressive from now on (LOL)

- What's the cause of that attitude change?
BoA: Because my love life is always unsuccessful! I want to have a better love life (LOL)

- You're the type who always keeps things to yourself in the end, right?
BoA: Yes. Recently I've been having fun conversations with my female friends about "How does one start love?" .

- Knowing that BoA is having a headache over this, girls in this world would have more courage!
BoA: Sometimes I think the reason girls are still single is because guys lack courage in love.

- You mean guys approach girls less?
BoA: Yes! It hurts us girls' pride. We always enjoy talking about this topic. (LOL)

- In the past few years, how have your thoughts change, including towards love.
BoA: umm... I feel I'm less feminine as time goes by. (LOL) But how do you define being feminine? Is the world's concept of being feminine correct? Is it your way of thinking that is feminine? Or is it your gestures?...

- The songs you released this year, Only One& Tail of Hope, show 26-year-old BoA well. Up to now, most of the songs have come with powerful dance, hair&make up. Fans must be surprised with the change.
BoA: Well I think made-up feel can be done any time but staying natural has its limit in time. "I want to stay natural when I still can" This thought of mine must have influenced the change of my music.

- Tell us about your upcoming fanmeeting
BoA: I look forward to performing but more than that, I wonder how the fans would answer my questions. This time, we asked the fans beforehand. The questions are like "Tell me the reasons I still don't have a boyfriend", "Why do you like me?" (LOL)

- Such straight to the point questions! (LOL)
BoA: It's a 10-year fanclub so instead of being fan-artist, it's more like we are friends. I want to ask frankly. Because usually I'm the one who has to answer (LOL)

― Tell us about your music in the future.
BoA:The most important thing is to deliver good music. Music can be a hit or miss, but if you care about that kind of thing, you'd lose your own color. I'd like to continue making music that I like from now on too.
