[translation] Only One JP Interview : Natalie Part3

The outfit that makes the choreography memorable.

── What's the concept for「The Shadow」MV?
The concept is directly the world one images from the lyrics. A camera called Technocrane is used to film me on the stage and me who's looking at myself on the stage. The scenes were shot at different angles to make it interesting to see.
──Viewers can enjoy 6 different outfits. As a woman, isn't it fun to wear many different outfits?
It was fun but I also had to dance for each outfit. There're totally 7 scenes including the non-dance onces. Filming took 3 days, it was tiring.
──Among the outfits, there's one with the black tight mini-skirt and there's also a see-through bosom with slit pants. They're sexy.
Exactly (LOL) But these days, that level of revealing is OK, right? I don't like cheap skin exposure, but I am not against revealing some skin to make the outfit look good. The slit pant is actually my idea.

──Eh? really?
While thinking about the choreography, I thought the outfit must have a special point. The song is a little hard to add a prominent point because it doesn't have a very catchy phrase or melody. So the point must have to be in the choreography and the outfit. So I decided to have the outfit the kind that makes the choreography memorable.
──That outfit is beautiful. The high-heel shoes seen under the slit are also very high it must be difficult to dance but your legs do look beautiful.
Thank you. I saw a model wearing this kind of pants in a western magazine I read while on a flight and I snapped a shot with my cellphone thinking I'd like to use this design somewhere in the future. When I saw  The Shadow choreography, I proposed we make this kind of pants to go with it. If I remember correctly, I think the brand was BALMAIN.
──I see. To self-produce, you need to always collect ideas from all kind of places.
Yes of course (LOL)

I can look at BoA more objectly now.

──It's been 3 years since your 1st self-produced album「IDENTITY」. Is there any change in yourself and how you self-produce?
My likes&dislikes change with time. Since they're always changing, so instead of doing what I like, I tend to think of the new ways to approach the song with BoA style. I don't want to do something just because it's in the trend. I would think if I'm doing this certain type of music, what would go well with it? Then after I find the answer, I'd discuss with the staff and find how to match it best with BoA style.
── What's "Self-Produce" to you during「IDENTITY」?
Back then I wanted to make good, cool music. I put in effort to do things I wanted to do without knowing how to pull out my own style. But I think my producing skill got better thanks to that album. That was the starting point and I gained more experiences from「K-POP STAR」resulting in me being able to look at BoA more objectively now.
──What's your experience from「K-POP STAR」?
In the show, there are 2 more judges who'd look at the contestants from a producer perspective. As for me, apart from the producer perspective, I also give advices from an artist's standpoint too. Since I'm the only female judge, sometimes I can catch something that the male judges do not see. When the 2 judges say something I didn't see, I'd think "Oh, you can look at it like that too." Of course, there are times when we all agree too. So it's a show where I can learn various things. I think I'm learning stuffs that producers should know.

Respect is a result of effort.

──Now talking about the song「Only One」, what do you think is needed for a woman to be the Only One for guys?
Sense of existence? Impact? (LOL) But I think if there's no mutual respect, the love can't last long. If you are a person worthy of respect then you will be loved and become the Only One.
──So respect is important in love. But isn't it difficult to respect our partner from the bottom of the heart?
We can think of it this way. Respect the way of thinking of the person who respects us. There're a lot of ways to build that kind of relationship. I also think that respect is a result of effort. Continuing to love that person is important but it's also important to put in an effort to become the person deserving of the partner's respect.
──I see. Love will last long if we always have that in mind.
Yes and do it naturally. It's for our partners and also for ourselves. Think of it as not for love to last long but to continue upgrading our lives. If we can do that then the love will automatically last long and we can become better persons. (LOL)
──Is it what you realized from your own love experiences?
No, I learnt it from failure stories of those around me (LOL) I realized what are the ideals (LOL) Listening to stories from people like "Before he used to say he liked it but now he just ignored it so we had a fight..." A lot of them are of the pattern where both are too familiar with each other, depending on each other too much, not realizing they even forget they're being self-centered.
──And then they end up like the song 「Only One」(LOL)
Ahaha That's it. (LOL)
