BoA's "Shout It Out" 1-hr radio special
BoA's supposed to be the radio personality and the guy(Souguchi-san) her assistant but turned out it was more like the guy was the host interviewing guest BoA. :P
They met before during Best&USA promotion and the guy claimed he felt like he was BoA's oppa, always cheering her on from afar. (LOL)
BoA then said he looked the same as before, a little chubby to which the guy replied "just say fat" (LOL) He then asked whether BoA eats all that she wants.
BoA: To prevent stress, I usually eat everything that I'd like to, except for dinner. But if I eat too much at dinner, next morning I'd do cardio such as running(or rather, walk fast since it's better for joints) on running machine with empty stomach for 30-40 mins. I also don't eat snacks.
Then they talked about her schedule balance between JP and KR and how fans can be happy listening to her speaking in Japanese for an hour.
Then they started talking about each of her recent releases starting from Only One which she composed/wrote herself.
BoA: I don't have the pressure that I need to write my own songs so I just have fun making them. I wrote Only One in 2011 or 2012, it was raining all the time then so I think the sentimental atmosphere affected the song. It portrays the scene of a couple breaking up in details.
Q: Is the lyrics from your own experience?
BoA: umm.. even though I probably didn't intend that to happen, it'd naturally come out since it's me who wrote the lyrics.
Q: Are you the type that friends seek for love advice?
BoA: Rather than advice, it's more like they just want to tell me their stories/problems. They say they can trust me not to leak their secrets. I usually do not like talking about business of others.
Q: Do you yell things like "just break up with him" to them?
BoA: I do. Since it's not my own problem, I can easily say that kind of thing. "Just break up already!" or "If it's that hard, then go back to him again!".
Then BoA introduced the movie "About Time" which she watched recently but then they didn't talk about this movie at all and talked about "Notting Hill" by the same creator instead.
Q: Do you think you can have romance like in the movie "Notting Hill"?
BoA: (hesitated for a long time) I don't know. Maybe possible if it's in London? Japan and Korea would be too realistic for that to happen. I'd have my guard up. I think Julia Roberts character in the movie must have wanted to enjoy her overseas trip to the fullest.
Then BoA explained about The Shadow lyrics that the shadow in the song represents the other side(sadness, for example) of celebs not shown to public and also represents her fans.
Moving on to "Tail of Hope".
Q: What's your hope or things you'd like to do?
BoA: Flying Jet Ski. (trying to explain what it is)
Q: Like the Iron Man? (LOL)
BoA: Yes yes! But it looks painful when you hit the water and it's difficult for beginners to gain balance. I heard there was one machine in Hawaii and another in Okinawa. Since there's only one machine, you need to make reservation in order to play.
Q: How about playing it for a variety program?
BoA: I'm afraid my facial expression while playing it might not be suitable for broadcast. Management wouldn't allow it. (LOL!!)
Then BoA went on to complain about going to Saipan to film Tail of Hope MV for 2 full days and didn't get to play anything at all. At least the staff should have given her some time to play Jet Ski. (LOL BoA complains whenever possible)
BoA: After seeing the MV, I think we didn't have to go as far as Saipan. Okinawa will do. (LOL!! LOL!! LOL!!)
Q: But you look so happy and energetic in the MV.
BoA: It was because I thought I'd be able to play after filming so I worked hard!
Q: The staff didn't tell you in advance to keep you in high spirits.
BoA: So cunning!
Q: Adults are cunning.
BoA: I'm also an adult but why am I fooled all the time? (LOL!!)
Then BoA talked about Baby You... how she wanted to give a present to fans in her first solo live in Korea and how she wrote it to be Only One's prequel and sang it right before Only One in the concert to keep the story chronologically.
Next is Message.
Q: What's the message/things people said to you that you remember?
BoA: They say "gambatte" (fighting! do your best! keep trying!) to me the most. I say it casually to others too. But recently people often say I'm the "pioneer" of K-POP boom in Japan and I don't like it. It's embarrassing. I feel embarrassed when people compliment me.
(the guy teased her by going on about how it was true that she was indeed the pioneer. LOL)
Q: How about a message to your fans?
BoA: Not long ago, I had a fanmeeting. It was last year and I hadn't held one in a long time. The fans greeted me saying they'd been waiting for me. The last few years, because of schedules in Korea and the U.S., I couldn't do activities in Japan like I used to so there was a blank period in my Japanese career. But the fans cheerfully and warmly said they'd been waiting for me so I remember that and feel grateful. There are fans who married each other and brought their kids to the venue too.
Q: Can you recognize your fans' faces?
BoA: Yes. Some fans attend every concert in every tour.
Q: You must have liked to hold fanmeetings more often.
BoA: I think fanmeetings are important but releasing songs regularly and doing performances so that everyone can come and enjoy together might be more fun. <- BoA wants to do concerts. XD
*Play "Message"*
BoA: The repetition of the word "Message" in this song is no joke. I even kept count while recording the song. The number is around 1x times. <- Yes, BoA would do that. LOL
Q: Let's talk a bit about the coupling song "call my name".
BoA: Recently (and also yesterday), flights and tv programs are often scheduled right after recording sessions. Usually for recordings, we set up start time but leave the finish time open. But recently, my staff keeps doing this to me, saying I need to go to Haneda airport after the recording session. I think there's something wrong with my staff.
(LOL there you go. BoA, the complainer is here again. XD even souguchi-san pointed it out. LOL)
BoA: I turn into "singing machine" in the studio. It's like after the "START" signal, I keep on singing until finish.
Q: What if you can't finish the job in time?
BoA: I have to finish it no matter what. Removing breaks and whatnots.
Q: Ah usually you need to do small talks with recording staff to build up a pleasant atmosphere. You'd also need breaks here and there, right?
BoA: Yes that's how it's supposed to be.
Q: That way, there'll be episodes to talk about later.
BoA: In my case, the episode would be speedy recording followed by hurrying to the airport afterwards. And what's more? The amount of singing for this song is really a lot! It was tough. But after hearing the finished song, it was great so the pain was worth it. LOL
Next is "Shout It Out"!
BoA: It's been a long time that I dance a lot in a song. MV shooting time was shorter than expected. It was because we prepared until we were ready to shoot the MV.
Q: I've heard you learn dance faster than other people.
BoA: (a little reluctant but finally saying) Yes. You know what? There's also time limit for my dance rehearsals. LOL
Q: Instead of giving you time to learn the dance, they force you to learn it with a limited time. How was it like?
BoA: I expected a hard dance routine after listening to the song. For live performances, I'm gonna get tired since I need to dance many times for rehearsals+live. But there'll be a way for it.
(from this, we can be 100% certain that she'll perform Shout It Out on tv programs. >_< even though the dance might be toned down a bit)
Moving on to "close to me"
BoA: There are live guitar, piano, drum, strings sounds in this song. It depicts feelings of a sentimental but lovely girl. A very honest and courageous girl.
Q: A kind of girl guys want to protect.
BoA: Yes. The song was written by a guy.
Q: Akira-san.
BoA: So I guess this must be the kind of girl he likes for a girlfriend. (LOL) When I look at the lyrics, I thought I couldn't be like her even if I wanted to, because of my personality. So I have the impression that she's a girl full of courage. I think expressing yourself honestly is a difficult thing to do. Girls who can be like that are cute.
Q: But you became like the girl in the song when you recorded it, right?
BoA: Yes, I've tried.
- Ending -
Q: Please do radio more.
BoA: I'll negatively think about it. (LMAO) I'm not good at talking. It's thank to you who's led me so well. Today was fun.
Q: What's your thoughts about your work last year?
BoA: I think I've done quite a lot. Avex's been saying that my work was too few but I'd rather think I've released a lot.
Q: Please hold live concerts too.
BoA: Before talking about lives, I'm more worried about album. I have singles stocked up enough I'm afraid my next album would be a BEST album. Live concerts would follow album release but I don't even know when I can release the album.
Q: Please release one and hold concerts soon. :)
